Slow Fashion
April 21, 2015
Whilst I was at the Creative Fibre Festival I attended a lecture given by Loraine McLean, a UK Designer.
She was really aware of the trends that are current; she has to be as she is a free lance designer.
One of the trends that she told us about is the Fashion Version of "THe Slow Food Movement". This trend appreciates how yarns, fabrics and garments are created and celebrates the time and care taken with the process. Perhaps Handweavers are coming into their own.
One aspect of thinking in this way is the "Made In..." trend, where designers use the colours, landscape features, ethnic clothing etc as a design source for their collections. Apparently "Scandi" is very fashionable now in the UK, with references to Scandanavian inspiration informing many of the new collections.
Definitely food for thought when thinking of our own creations.
